Orange Democratic Movement to hold grassroots elections

The Orange Democratic Movement is set to hold its grassroots elections from next month.

The elections will be held in three phases and are expected to be completed in October.

Speaking to the Press, National Election Board Chairperson Judy Pareno said the polls would be held at the county, constituency and ward levels.

Ms Pareno said branch officials were required to submit membership registers ahead of the polls.

"All branch officials involved in membership recruitment and registration are hereby directed to submit provisional membership registers from their branches," she said

She added that the registers would be scrutinised by county co-ordinators before they could be used in the elections.

"The board will be very strict in discharging its electoral mandate to ensure that democracy prevails in the election process and only committed members of the party will participate," she said, adding the board was determined to deliver a transparent election to restore members' trust in the party.

"We are dedicated and ready to provide free, fair elections as that is our duty to the party and our members," Pareno said.

The first phase of the elections, which will take place between July 31 and August 3, will be held in Kilifi, Vihiga, Nairobi, Kajiado, Marsabit, Wajir and Migori counties. The dates for the second and third phases of the polls will be announced later.
