ODM probe on Executive Director Magerer Langat attack flops after he snubs team

An investigation into the violent eviction of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Executive Director Magerer Langat hit a snag when he failed to turn up.

Mr Langat failed to show up at Orange House on Monday, forcing the probe committee led by lawyer Fred Achok to push the session to next week.

The former Kipekelion MP is said to have snubbed the team because he had not been formally invited.

"He only learnt from the media that he was supposed to appear today," a source close to the embattled leader said.

Langat is also said to be angered that the investigations were opened against him, even though he was the offended party, while those who unleashed violence on him roamed freely.

Last week in Mombasa, he told The Standard he would not be appearing at Orange House any time soon because "my security is not guaranteed".

Langat also questioned the decision to fine MCAs who led the onslaught on him Sh100,000 and an apology to the party, yet he was the victim.

"No one has even called to explain to me what transpired. Instead, they have resolved to fine the MCAs and asked them to apologise to the party," he said.

He said he was not willing to return to Orange House as "it's not tenable to work in a place which has been taken over by goons".

During last Tuesday's National Executive Committee meeting, nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro, the party's director of membership and recruitment Rosemary Kariuki and Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Elisha Otieno led the onslaught against Langat, whom they accused of being a mole.

He was accused of failing to support Ms Ongoro in the Political Parties Liaison Committee elections held recently in which Wavinya Ndeti was picked. He is also accused of uttering words to the effect that ODM was dead and its leader Raila Odinga would never ascend to the presidency.
