There are two new senators in town:  Ben Njoroge and Godliver Nanjira Omondi. The chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Ahmed Isaack Hassan published the names of the two in the Kenya Gazette declaring that they are now nominated senators.

Njoroge and Omondi are coming in after they successfully petitioned for the dismissal of senators Linet Kemunto Nyakeriga and Harold Kimuge Kipchumba.

“The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission gives notice to the public that (Njoroge and Omondi) stand validly nominated to the Senate,” read the notice dated October 8, 2013, released late Friday.

Njoroge, who has a physical disability, is coming in to replace Nyakeriga on The National Alliance party. Omondi, who also has a physical disability, is coming in to replace Kipchumba, on Orange Democratic Movement Party.

The two new senators will join their 18 nominated colleagues in the Senate.

The Clerk of the Senate Jeremiah Nyegenye said the Senate was aware of the new senators, and it will now get ready to have them taken on board.

“They are now in our charge. We will contact them and make arrangements for them to be sworn in as senators,” Nyegenye told the Standard Friday evening.

The IEBC chairman did the nomination as per the powers vested on his office by the Constitution, the Elections Act, and the Election regulations and as per a court order issued on October 1.
