Uhuru urges leaders to get TNA ticket

Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta has told aspirants in central Kenya to stop dragging his name in their campaigns.

Uhuru declared he had no favourite candidates for any of the seats and those claiming he was behind them were misleading the electorate.

Speaking in Kirinyaga yesterday, Uhuru said all those supporting his presidential candidature should join The National Alliance (TNA).

He took his campaign to the doorstep of Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua, who has defied calls to have the region rally behind one political party.

“All those interested in political seats should join TNA and fight for nominations. Those who don’t make it will have a chance to serve in other capacities,” said Uhuru.

He spoke at various stopovers in Kirinyaga Central where he went to drum up support for Ezekiel Githinji, a TNA candidate for Mutira Ward by-election.

Finance Minister Njeru Githae and Kirinyaga Central MP Gitari Gachoki accompanied the DPM.

“I don’t want to involve myself in the preliminary stages. All candidates should seek votes from people and once they secure the TNA ticket, I will be there to campaign for them,” said Uhuru.

He said TNA would set an example by conducting free and fair nominations to ensure the people’s choice is respected.

“We want to open a new chapter in Kenyan politics. The party will stand with the democratic ideals we have been rooting for,” he said.

Uhuru spoke of the need for all presidential aspirants to hold a joint nomination and support those who  win.

“We want to conduct our campaigns in a civil way, we are not going to mudsling anyone because we believe in competition.” said the DPM.

Uhuru’s sentiments come at a time when political aspirants in the region want to associate with him. Some have already printed campaign materials with the picture of the DPM alongside theirs.
