Teenage pregnancy is not a new problem to Kenya. The crisis was aggravated by the closure of schools by the government to curb the spread of corona-virus, in 2020. As of 2019, latest statistics from the Global Childhood, Kenya has the third-highest teen pregnancy rates with 82 births per 1,000 births; the highest in East Africa. According to the experts, many teenage mothers are facing stigma that may lead to depression and efforts to get back on track and mitigate the damage done may take much longer. In the second episode, Zubeida Koome speaks to Bishop Edward Khaoya who runs a rescue center for vulnerable children in Kitale as he explains why his main concern is the welfare of the girl child.
