On August 7, 2019 an incident captured national attention: Kwale Woman Rep Zuleikha Hassan forced her way into the National Assembly’s main chamber with her baby, something Standing Orders of the House do not allow. The MP justified her action by pointing out that her nanny was away and she did not want to miss National Assembly sittings that day. She used the opportunity to highlight the lack of a crèche in Parliament where nursing women MPs could leave their infants while attending parliamentary business.
