Police question Imanyara over death threats

By Cyrus Ombati

Police have questioned Imenti Central MP Gitobu Imanyara and his personal assistant over claims that their lives are in danger.

Commissioner of police Mathew Iteere said they want to ascertain the claims and take remedial action.

Iteere said Imanyara recorded his statement at CID headquarters before a team of detectives. ImanyaraÕs PA has also recorded his statement before the same team and Kasarani police officers.

Iteere said they are investigating claims by ImanyaraÕs PA that two men kidnapped him on Tuesday night.

ÒHe went to Kasarani to claim he had been kidnapped hours after he had expressed fear over his life. Police are looking into these claims with a view of taking action,Ó said Iteere.

Police were taken into a spin when Imanyara called to say unknown people had kidnapped his PA in Kasarani area as he walked out of a supermarket.

But the PA surfaced at the local police station minutes later saying he had been freed. He told police the gang wanted his mobile phoneÕs sim card but he declined to hand it over to them.

Speaking on Wednesday, Iteere said they are taking the MPÕs claims seriously and added that the Imenti Central MP will be accorded more security.
