A Police officer narrowly escaped death after being attacked by protestors in Homa Bay County.

The officer who is attached to the Rachuonyo South Police Division was seriously injured by protestors who were trying to break into a bank in Oyugis town.

A group of uniformed officers who were patrolling the town came to the scene where they tried to disperse the protesters.

But the protestors who were armed with stones and crude weapons started attacking the officers by pelting them with stones.

The victim was cornered by the crowd. He collapsed after he was overwhelmed by injuries.

Fellow officers got hold of the injured officer and rushed him to a hospital in the county where he is recuperating.

Rachuonyo South Sub County Police Commander Lilies Wachira said the officer sustained serious injuries in the incident.

“The officer was seriously injured in the incident. His health is improving even though he is still very sick. We cannot reveal the officer’s details and the hospital where he has been admitted because we want him to be safe,” Wachira said.

She warned residents against taking advantage of demonstrations to engage in crime.

“Let residents avoid criminal activities. We will not spare anybody who engages in crime,” Wachira added.
