Police hunt for 12 Covid-19 escapees in Migori

Police in Migori are still hunting for the twelve people who escaped from a Covid-19 quarantine center in Kuria sub-county.

Sources within the County's Covid-19 Emergency and Surveillance committee said the 12 were some of the 20 people who were arrested while drinking at a bar in Migori town during curfew hours last week.

The suspects are said to have escaped from Mabera Secondary School where seven other people fled last month as they awaited coronavirus tests.

On Sunday, Mabera Police boss Cleti Kimaiyo and Migori Health Executive Isaac Oluoch confirmed the incident. “So far, nobody has been arrested but we are pursuing them,” Kimayo said.

He said they were investigating how the 12 escaped from the facility which is the main quarantine center in the County.

Migori County has reported 14 Covid-19 cases so far.

Sources told The Standard that the police have had an uphill task tracing the escapees since their identities had not been recorded.

Last week, police raided a hotel in Migori and arrested 20 revelers who were driven to the quarantine center.
