Three killed in curfew rush in Bondo

Three men on Thursday died in a road accident at Got Agulu, Bondo sub-county, as they were rushing home to beat the night curfew.

They were two boda boda riders and a passenger.

David Ochieng, Wickliffe Otieno and Calvins Odhiambo are reported to have died near Uhwaya market, about two kilometres from Osieko beach.

Another passenger on the second motorbike survived and is currently receiving treatment at Bondo sub-county hospital.

The accident occurred when their motorbikes collided head-on a few minutes past 7pm.

Witnesses said the four were rushing home to comply with the night curfew.

“They were rushing and decided to dim their bikes' headlights to avoid being seen by the police," a witness said.

Speaking to The Standard, Jack Orocha, a relative to the deceased, said the three died on the spot.

While confirming the incident, Bondo sub-county police commander Anthony Wafula said the bodies were taken to Bondo hospital mortuary as investigations begin.

“People have been complying with the curfew order and it is unfortunate that this accident happened as the victims were rushing to beat it,” Wafula said.
