Kuppet Secretary General, Akelo Misori has started donating face masks and sanitisers to various constituencies in Homa Bay county, in a move aimed at buttressing the government’s efforts to combat coronavirus pandemic.

On Friday, Misori presided over the distribution of 24,000 face masks and sanitisers in Kabondo Kasipul, Kasipul, Rangwe, Ndhiwa and Suba North constituencies.

“We covered Chabera, Ringa, Kadongo, Oyugis, Asumbi, Olare, Rangwe, Rodi and Mbita and will make sure we reach all corners of the county,” he told Standard Digital on phone, adding that the initiative targets boda boda riders, mama mboga, small business traders and the elderly.

He said apart from receiving face masks, the residents will also be taught on how to make and effectively use homemade masks to protect their families.

“Our team will not distribute the items and leave, they will teach locals on how to use the masks.”

Misori has urged residents to adhere to government directives of keeping social distance, washing of hands to help combat the coronavirus pandemic.

The Kuppet boss said coronavirus is a faceless global pandemic, which calls for a concerted effort to fight and defeat it.

He urged political leaders and organisations to join the government in the fight against the virus for the country to return to normalcy.

“Let everyone come on board so that we can help the government combat the virus. Our people must also adhere to the directives by the government,” he said.

“Our single responsibility as a county is to unite and secure our people from the deadly virus,” he added.

The Secretary General, however, asked teachers and parents not to conduct home tuition during this time, adding that such activities will be counterproductive in the fight against the virus.

“It is wrong for any parent to engage a teacher for tuition during this period when our children need to stay at home, “he added.

Misori said the exercise is a continuous process that will be ongoing until they cover the whole county.

Kenya's Covid-19 cases have risen to 189 after five new cases were announced by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Friday.

Homa Bay county is yet to record any case.
