Rasanga drops finance minister in changes

Siaya’s executive officer for finance, Richard Mungla, has been sent on compulsory leave in what county officials have termed a “reorganisation of government”.

Governor Cornel Rasanga (above) is yet to appoint Mr Mungla’s replacement.

County Secretary Joseph Ogutu yesterday told The Standard that the chief finance officer, Hezbon Mariwa, had further been moved to the trade department in a similar position.

Finance Director Dennis Nyonje has taken over the position previously held by Mr Mariwa in an acting capacity.

Mr Ogutu said the chief trade officer, Christopher Owang, has been appointed the director for liquor.

“This is just normal reorganisation of government to enhance service delivery,” said Ogutu.

Mungla took over the finance docket from Joseph Warega, who resigned in March last year.

This is the second time Mr Rasanga is reorganising his Cabinet after being elected into office for a second term. His first reshuffle was in July 2019.

In February, Rasanga interdicted one human resources staff member and sent two others on compulsory leave over claims of financial irregularities.
