In a gruesome killing, the body of a Standard Eight pupil who went missing on Wednesday was found dumped on Thursday in a nearby maize farm.

Sharon Adhiambo of Hexapeak Academy in Ndhiwa sub-county, Homa Bay county had left home on Wednesday morning to school and never returned.

Her body was dumped in a maize plantation at Malela village, Kakaketa sub-location in the sub-county.

Residents who were walking to a nearby village tumble on the body before reporting the matter to the area chief.

The 15-year-old girl was seen leaving home in her school uniform on Wednesday morning before she disappeared.

“She was in her school uniform on Wednesday morning,” said one of the witnesses.

Her parents' efforts to locate her proved futile since nobody knew where she had gone to after leaving for school only to go missing before reaching the school.

Police suspect the minor could have been defiled before being strangled to death.

Ndhiwa Sub County police boss Evans Ombui said the body lacked visible injuries.

“The body had no visible injuries, but we suspect the minor was defiled before being killed,” Ombui said.

Ombui said a suspect had been arrested in connection with the killing and is being held at Ndhiwa Police Station.

“We have taken the suspect to Ndhiwa Police Station for detention and further interrogations,” Ombui added.

The body of the minor has been moved to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
