Police arrest suspects with military uniforms

Two suspects believed to be perpetrating robbery with violence have been arrested for being in possession of military uniforms in Homa Bay County.

The men were found in possession of the uniforms in their rental houses in Sindo town, Suba Sub County over the weekend.

One of them was found in possession of two pairs of gumboots, a pair of long trouser and a military bag.

Another was found with a military short, shirt and flat shoes.

Their apprehension came after police got a tip off from the public that the two harbored the State property in their houses.

They were arrested and taken to Magunga Police Station.

Suba South Sub County Police Commander Richard Cheruiyot said they had verified that the items were genuine military uniforms.

“These items belong to military officers and the shirt has service number of an officer. We have confiscated the items for further investigations,” said Cheruiyot.

The officer said the owner of the uniforms had not been identified.

The police boss expressed optimism that their investigations will reveal where the items were taken from.

“We are also finding out the purpose for which the suspects secured the items,” said Cheruiyot.

The uniforms are suspected to have been obtained from a military officer either by the suspects or by someone else who handed them over to them.

The suspects are accused of perpetrating robbery with violence in Sindo town, after area residents raised complaints over insecurity.

According to the chairman of Sindo Traders Association John Kisiara, a gang that had developed a habit of robbing residents of their valuables.

“Many traders in the town have lost their property in hands of the gangsters in this town. We thank the security personnel for their effort but we still request them to do more to eradicate the crime,” Kisiara said.

Last week, two suspects were lynched by residents who implicated them in theft of two motorbikes in Sindo town.
