Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has threatened to evict residents who do not register as voters.

“We have given everybody who lives in this constituency one week and three days to register as a voter. Whoever fails to do so will be considered a traitor in this constituency and we won’t need them anymore,” Mr Kaluma said.

The MP has formed a group to mobilise youth to register as voters.

The group nicknamed RDF will sensitise people in door-to-campaigns to ensure they are registered as voters.

Kaluma said the group would also visit a number of institutions like churches, hospitals, bus stations and other public institutions to assist those who have not been registered.

Addressing the Press in Homa Bay town, the MP said the operation is set to kick off next Wednesday in a bid to realise a high number of voters in the constituency.

He said the group would also be inspecting vehicles to bar those who fail to register as voters from entering the town.

The lawmaker said the punishment would include forcing such people out of the town and any other action that may follow if they resist.

Bad Youths

“I am not saying the RDF are bad youths but the culprits who refuse to move out of this town will suffer. They would rather deny me their votes in the forthcoming General Election as long as we can meet our target of over 500,000 voters to help us achieve our ambition of winning the presidency in 2017,” Kaluma said.

Kaluma, who is the county ODM organising secretary, said applying sanctions in Homa Bay Town would also motivate residents of other constituencies in the county to register.

He said only those who possess ID waiting cards will be spared.
