Probe violence perpetrators at Homa Bay funeral, police told

Police in Homa Bay have been challenged to arrest perpetrators of violence that led to the death of a university student during a funeral in the area.

Speaking at a press conference, leaders led by Life For Children Welfare CEO Michael Agwanda and six assembly members expressed concern that nobody had been arrested since the incident took place on Saturday evening.

Patrick Anyanzwa, a 48-year-old student at Technical University of Kenya was killed during the burial of Susan Jowi at Oto Chogo village in South Kabuoch location.

"The incident occurred four days ago but we are astonished that nobody has so far been arrested.

We want the county police boss to intervene in this matter so that the bereaved family and those affected are accorded justice," Agwanda said.

Avert attack

Kanyadoto Ward Rep Lawrence Mula said the attack could lead to more violence and he urged security organs to do everything in their power to avert the situation.

"We are told youth were hired from other counties to stir mayhem at the funeral. I ask my fellow elected leaders to concentrate on development instead of igniting chaos among locals," Mula said.

Ward Reps Richard Ogindo (Kwabwai), Oscar Ouma (South Kabuoch), Lenox Ochieng' (Kanyamwa Kosewe), Clement Olago (Kanyamwa Kologi) and Wanjala Kasera (Kanyikela) demanded that area MP Agostino Neto record a statement with police since "he was present during the violence".

"Leadership is about the degree in which you change people's lives rather than how well people can fight in your area of jurisdiction," Ouma said.
