Man behind Kenyatta era coup plot dies at 68

The Kenya Air Force pilot who played a key role in the 1971 coup attempt against Kenya’s first President, the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, is dead.

Capt (Rtd) Frederick Collins Omondi Oyoo, who was jailed for ten years for his role in the abortive coup died at a Kisumu hospital on Friday following an illness, his family told The Standard. He was 68.

His widow, Mrs Rose Omondi, said the former controversial soldier suffered a stroke last February and had developed complications resulting to his death. He trained  as a jet fighter pilot.
