Cord team to campaign in Nyanza

NAIROBI,KENYA: Cord Presidential candidate Raila Odinga returns to his Nyanza backyard a fortnight after acrimonious nominations for a three-day campaign trail stretching from Siaya to Migori.

The visit begins Monday and is hoped will soothe some of the wounds inflicted by the nominations which were largely perceived as flawed and caused bitter fall outs within the ODM ranks with some disgruntled candidates seeking alternative vehicles to elective positions.

It will be interesting how the PM will talk the Siaya County candidates into voting party nominee for Governor Cornelius Rasanga who was settled on after his elder brother Oburu Oginga and new comer William Oduol differed bitterly over the party ticket.

Both Oburu and Oduol were denied the party ticket. While Oburu, an assistant minister for Finance has since been shortlisted on the parliamentary nomination list, the latter decamped to National Agenda Party of Kenya to vie for the seat.

It remains to be seen how Oduol and other disgruntled ODM nomination losers will fight back the ODM wave once Raila and CORD alliance big wigs start campaigns in the region.

Raila will be accompanied by his co-CORD principals, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Trade Minister Moses Watengula together with other coalition luminaries.

They will address campaign rallies in Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Homa Bay and Siaya counties.

The team’s first stop will be Kisii and Nyamira, where they are scheduled to hold mini rallies in different parts of the two counties before addressing a major rally at the Gusii Stadium.

On Tuesday, the Cord team will travel to Kuria for a major rally at Kehancha.

On Wednesday, the principals will move to Homa Bay and Siaya counties, where they will address major rallies at the Homa Bay and Siaya stadiums.

Meanwhile, the recently launched CORD EFFECT campaign team is set to hold rallies Kisii, Nyamira and Kisumu counties on Sunday and Monday respectively.
