The Standard scribe Ongeri dies after an illness

The Standard correspondent Boniface Ongeri, who was based in North Eastern region, has died. Ongeri passed on at a Nairobi hospital where he had been admitted.

He had worked in North Eastern for almost a decade. He blended well with the locals and had mastered the Somali language, which made his work easier.

Friends eulogised him online as a true son of the region, which he always referred to as his second home. A family spokesman said Ongeri had been diagnosed with a brain tumour, which they suspect caused his death on Monday.

Tributes have been pouring in online since his demise. Eldas MP Aden Keynan condoled with the bereaved family, terming Ongeri’s death as shocking.

“The man has been covering the region’s issues so positively that we knew him as our son. Let his soul rest in peace,” said Keynan.

He is survived by his wife, who is pregnant.
