President Ruto nominates Mary Wanyonyi, Chebukati's wife as CRA chair

President William Ruto has nominated Mary Wanyonyi to be the next chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).

Ms Wanyonyi is the wife of the former chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati.

The President also nominated Phyllis Wambui Wagacha as the Salaries Remuneration Commission (SRC) member.

Ms Wanyonyi and Dr Wambui's names have been forwarded to Parliament for approval.

If approved Ms Wanyonyi will replace Dr Jane Kiringai who retired after serving as CRA chair for six years.

Her name was among three forwarded to the President by the Public Service Commission (PSC) after conducting interviews. The other nominees were Thomas Ludindi Mwadeghu and Felicity Nkirote Biriri.

"Ms Wanyonyi is a Certified Accountant and certified mediator who also hold a master's degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor's of Commerce (Accounting)," reads a statement by State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed.

She has over 30 years of experience in accounting and is currently the Senior Deputy Accountant General and Head of the Accounting Unit in the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development.

If approved by Parliament Dr Wambui will replace Dalmas Otieno who resigned from his post to run for office in the August 2022 elections.

Her name was among two forwarded to President Ruto by PSC, the other candidate for the post was Japhter Kiplimo Rugut.

Dr Wambui holds a Doctoral degree in Information Sciences from Moi University.

She has served at Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) and the International Committee for Social Science Information and Documentation.
