NTSA's Wanjau replaces Kimotho at National Registration Bureau

Christopher Kinyua Wanjau is the new secretary for the National Registration Bureau-NRB.

Wanjau who has been serving as the director for motor vehicle registration and licensing at the National Transport and Safety Authority, NTSA replaces Mr Reuben Kimotho who has since retired after 16 years of service at the bureau under the Ministry of Interior, State department for Citizen Services

 Wanjau, a career administrator and civil servant is credited with digitisation of services at NTSA which has brought services closer to the public through the self-service portal- TIMS.

During his tenure at the safety authority, NTSA acquired the state of art printing machines for the digital driving licenses beside devolution of services for the DLs to be accessed at Huduma offices across the country.

This saw more than one million digital driving licence cards printed in the same period.

Prior to joining NTSA, Wanjau  worked in different capacities in public offices  amongst them Kiambu County as the head of Thika Municipality and deputy County Commissioner in different regions including Thika and Eldoret West in Uasin Gishu.

"His wealth of experience in leadership, governance and technology compounded with training is expected to see the expansion of services for the registration of persons in the country," read part of an internal memo.

Wanjau holds two Master’s degree in Public Administration from Moi University and Business Administration Strategic Management from Catholic University. He is currently finalising on his PhD in Strategic Management.

Mr Kimotho in his handover speech said he was very confident that his successor would steer a strong team with capacity to deliver good services to the citizenry and to move the department to even higher levels.

“Together we have covered many grounds. We issued 30 million 2nd Generation IDs to Kenyans and also managed to automate registration services in Jogoo House, Huduma Centers and County Registration Stations. The staff complement during this period grew from 3,000 to 6,687,” said Kimotho.

He said recently, the bureau successfully petitioned the Public Service Commission to review its staff establishment and organisational structure.
