Armed robber makes away with Sh18m from a forex bureau in Garissa

Police in Garissa are in hot pursuit of a suspected armed robber who stole Sh18m from Bay Forex Bureau Limited in Garissa Town Monday, October 18.

The gunman entered the bureau at 2:30pm, according to CCTV camera footage obtained from the crime scene. He had a cap, gloves and a face mask on and pretended to be a customer.

He later commanded two staff at the counter to lie on the ground before he went to the safe where he stole the money both in US Dollars and Kenya Shillings.

"Most of the staff had gone for lunch leaving behind two attendants at the counters. That is when an armed person entered the bureau, forced them to lie on the ground and robbed them of two bundles of cash, one containing USD80,000 and another USD 55,000 and Sh2.7m," police said.

During the heist, the two workers sustained slight injuries. They were treated and discharged in stable condition.

The incident was reported at the Garissa Police Station under OB number 53/17/10/2022.

The suspect is still at large.
