An 11-year-old-girl is admitted in critical condition to the Gilgil District Hospital after her mother cut her several times with a sharp knife over Sh30.

The minor was left bleeding profusely after the attack in Kambi Somali estate in Gilgil. The incident left residents in shock.

At some point, irate members of the public threatened to rough up the mother before police arrested her.

Trouble started after the minor, who is in Class Five in one of the local primary schools, was sent home to collect Sh30 exam fee.

According to a neighbour Sakina Said, the mother had an argument with the minor, telling her she did not have the money.

“In the process the minor refused to go back to school saying she feared being punished by her teachers,” she said.

Sakina narrated how the mother took a knife and cut the minor in the hands before neighbours intervened. “We were attracted to the house by screams and on enquiring we found the minor covered in blood and rescued her,” she said.

Contacted on telephone, Naivasha OCPD Charles Kortok said the mother would be arraigned in court. He said the minor was in stable condition and was receiving treatment as investigation into the incident continued. Cases of assault due to domestic issues have been on
