Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has appointed new boards to run medical facilities in the city.

Government Chief Pathologist Johansen Odour will now chair the Nairobi Funeral Home (City Mortuary) board for a period of three years.

The new City morgue board members are Prof Vincent Onywera, Dr Edwin Oloo Walong, Dr John Nderitu, Eunice Kanini Mutiso and Alex Maina Mwangi.

The appointment is part of the bigger changes Governor Sakaja has made in County hospitals.

The changes are largely informed by a recent case where a mother delivered a baby along the corridors of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.

The incident which sparked public uproar forced the county boss to dismiss the whole board promising more change to make the County facilities work.

And in a gazette notice dated April 28, Sakaja has not only named a new board for the biggest County hospital in Eastlands, but also a new board for City Mortuary.

Recently, the County announced plans to rename Nairobi Funeral Home citing that it will be a good move to give city residents deserving dignity.

Another notable figure appointed in the changes at County facilities is former Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi who takes over as chairperson of the Pumwani Hospital board.

Mama Lucy hospital will be chaired by Dorcas Kemunto who was one of the members of the Health Taskforce Committee.

Other board members are Jennifer Mumbua Mutunga, Susan Wanjiru Kamau, Yvonne Peris Alera Makokha, Fridah Wambui Nduati and Ronald Ngala Oniango.

Grace Omoni was appointed as the chairperson of the Pumwani Maternity College of Nursing and Midwifery.

Members of the board include Albina Wangari Githuku, Isaac Kiprugut, Hellen Lusala, Alfred Obengo and Diana Kapeen.

Dr Isaiah Tanui on the other hand will chair Mutuini hospital alongside board members including Brian Muchene, Nancy Wairimu Mbai, Oliver Chiraba, Samuel Okwany and Salome Mbugua.

Dr Gitahi Githinji was named as chairperson of the Mbagathi Hospital board; the board members are Agnetta Akinyi Ojee, Edwina Auma Oliech, Faiz Ochieng Magak, Joram Fichingo Mwinamo and Martin Kanga Adienge.
