The Late President Daniel arap Moi’s body will lie in State at Parliament Buildings for three days ahead of his state funeral.

The body arrived at Parliament Buildings from Lee Funeral Home on Saturday morning for public viewing and will stay at Parliament until Monday, February 10.

Lying in state is the tradition in which the body of a dead official is placed in a state building, either outside or inside a coffin, to allow the public to pay their respects.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta led Kenyans to view the remains of Mzee Moi.

The Deputy President, the Cabinet and other dignitaries had an hour to view the body before members of the public were allowed in.

Long queues are being witnessed along Parliament Road as Kenyans turned up in their numbers to pay their last respect to President Moi.

Members of the public willing to pay their last respects to Kenya’s longest serving president will be free to do so throughout the weekend until Monday.

On Tuesday, Kenyans will observe a public holiday ahead of Moi’s state funeral on Wednesday, February 12.

Moi will be buried at his Kabarak home on Wednesday, February 12.
