Nakumatt supermarket manager shoots dead his junior colleague in Nairobi

Nakumatt supermarket transport manager shot dead his junior colleague at their headquarter offices in Industrial Area, Nairobi after a dramatic confrontation.

The deceased is alleged to have threatened to attack the manager and other workers using a panga.

Police say another colleague sustained a panga cut during the incident.

According to Nairobi head of police Japheth Koome who cited witnesses, the deceased picked up a panga in the office and started to chase his colleagues at about 11am today.

“In the process, one worker was injured as the drama continued before one of the managers went for his gun and fatally shot him. We are investigating the incident," said Koome.

Koome said the manager is a licensed firearm holder but the firearm has been confiscated as investigations continue.

Workers at the supermarket told police the deceased appeared mentally disturbed.

Police say they want to establish how the incident happened. There was no immediate word from the supermarket.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mater Hospital.
