NAIROBI, KENYA: A policewoman was on Monday night arrested over alleged involvement in robbery cases in Ruaraka area, Nairobi.

The officer was arrested in a salon car alongside three other men for the incidents, which police say they have been committing in the area.

She and the other suspected accomplices were questioned overnight and were expected in court on Tuesday.

Police say the group has been linked to cases of robberies in the area.

Nairobi police boss Benson Kibue said they are investigating if the officer was the one behind crimes in the area.

He added they seized a pair of handcuff and homemade gun from the suspects after their arrest.

Cases of police involvement in armed robberies are on the rise in Nairobi with authorities struggling to contain them.

Some of the officers are serving while others are former. This forced authorities to take a register of all former police, prisons warders and military officers in efforts to contain the situation.

Officials say this will enable them monitor their movements as part of strategies to contain crime in urban areas.
