Lucky escape for two from kidnappers in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya: A licensed gunholder and members of the public saved two kidnapped victims in a dramatic chase in Kiserian, Nairobi that left one of the suspects dead.

The civilian who is licensed to carry a gun was driving by when he saw a commotion on the roadside between members of the public and six men who were in a saloon car. He managed to shoot dead one of the kidnappers in a dramatic chase, police said.

Among those who were in the car were two men who had been kidnapped from Tononoka, Mombasa. Police identified the victims as G Pundit, 64 and Lawrence Onkundi and that the kidnappers had been demanding Sh10 million ransom before they could release them.

Nairobi police boss Benson Kibue said the men were kidnapped from Mombasa and taken to Kibiku, Ngong where the kidnappers kept calling from while demanding ransom.

Come Friday evening, the kidnappers decided to move the victims to a different house in Kiserian. Mr Kibue said it was then members of the public noticed the movement of the victims in a salon car.

“The public suspected there was something wrong after seeing the Asian businessman being sandwiched between the kidnappers and raised alarm,” said Kibue.
