A man was Saturday night injured in an explosion inside a merchandise shop in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

Police said the explosion happened at about 8.30 pm when an abandoned IED went off inside the shop.

According to Nairobi police boss Benson Kibue, a known suspect of Somali origin walked into the shop and abandoned the IED there.

The shop is on 8th Street.

Another customer walked in few minutes later and it exploded on him. "He sustained serious injuries and is admitted at KNH. We are looking for the man who had the explosive," said Kibue. He appealed to the locals to help in tracing the suspect.

This is the second explosion to happen there in less than a month. On December 14 a similar IED went off in a matatu and killed six passengers injuring 30 others. No arrest has been made so far. Such attacks are on the rise since 2011 when Kenyan troops crossed to Somalia to hunt for Alshabaab militants who are blamed for several attacks.
