Nairobi, Kenya: Internews Kenya and the Alliance Against Malaria (AAM) have separately awarded two Standard Group investigative journalists for their outstanding work in health reporting.

The two journalists had written well-researched stories as part of the media group’s recent Bad Medicine campaign seeking reforms in the country’s health system.

The Standard reporter Dann Okoth was named health writer of the year 2012 by AAM for his articles covering malaria, Kenyatta National Hospital and the environment.

He received his award last Friday at the Crown Plaza hotel during a gala dinner.

Earlier, Internews Kenya selected The Standard investigative reporter Paul Wafula for a journalism fellowship worth Ksh400,000.

Internews Kenya official Trudy Mbaluku said the panelists felt he was strongly committed to health journalism and his stories had a human face.

The fellowship will cover reporting on malaria, family planning, maternal and child health and HIV.
