NAIROBI, KENYA: Police in Ongata Rongai mid morning Thursday found an AK47 riffle in the Kenya Wildlife Service Forest (KWS) along Magadi road near Ross Hotel.

Police reports indicate that the riffle was spotted by women who had gone to collecting firewood in the forest.

Rongai Police boss Francis sang confirmed the incident and said the women who spotted an item rapped in a black polythene bag while collecting their firewood reported the matter to the police who later accompanied them to establish what it was.

“The women who were collecting their firewood rushed to inform the police about the item and when the officers left to the site, they found an AK47 riffle rapped inside a black polythene paper,” Sang told The Standard.

He said the riffle might have been left inside the forest by the owner for a long time since it contained a lot of rust.

“We suspect that the owner of the riffle might have died or may be he decided to abandon it at the place,” Sang added.

He said the riffle will be taken to the Central Firearm Bureau in Nairobi for experts to check its serial number in order identify its holder.
