Standard Group journalists feted over awards

Nairobi, Kenya: Kenyan journalists have been challenged to take the lead in championing development across the country.

Speaking at a dinner to celebrate the exemplary performance by Standard Group journalists last Friday at the Eka Hotel, the Group’s CEO Sam Shollei said journalists could not just sit back and watch the country struggling to develop.

“If you look at Kenya 50 years ago, we were as developed as Malaysia, Singapore and Korea. It’s a shame we have been left behind in terms of development. However, journalists have a chance to see our country develop to that level,” Mr Shollei said.

Standard Group journalists scooped 21 out of 39 awards during the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards organised by the Media Council of Kenya on May 3.

The achievement was aptly captured by Group Human Resource Director Pauline Kiraithe who said: “This is the home of talent. This is where the best provide the best to our readers and listeners.”
