Nairobi,Kenya: A suspected female gangster was yesterday morning shot dead by police in Nairobi’s Dandora area and a gun recovered in an alleged botched robbery.

Police and witnesses said the slain middle-aged woman was in the company of eight men and had earlier on carjacked a matatu in Kariobangi South and robbed passengers at about 5am.

She was killed near Dandora Police Station where the driver of the matatu had driven it to as the gang allegedly attacked and robbed passengers on board.

SOUGHT ATTENTION

According to Nairobi Area Head of Police Ben Kibue, the driver of the matatu defied the gang’s order and drove to the police station while hooting to seek the attention of officers.

“The other gang members managed to jump out and escaped but the woman whom we believe was an accomplice was caught up as she also ran away. We are looking for the other men who escaped,” said Kibue.

The police boss said passengers identified the woman as one of those who had been attacking them in the matatu during the robbery.

The matatu had picked up passengers from Ambassadeur stage in the city centre to Dandora when nine of them turned out to be thugs.
