Dasani Golf Gala at Windsor tomorrow

The Dasani Golf Gala heads to the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club for the ninth event on the Championship.

At stake will be two qualification slots in the Dasani Golf Gala Grand Finale from where the winning team will win an all-expenses paid trip to the Gary Player Invitational at the Fancourt Golf Resort in George, South Africa.

Coca Cola Country Manager, Peter Njonjo said Windsor was included on the calendar due to its unique positioning as a resort and international golf tourist destination.

"Kenya has only a few golf resorts similar to Fancourt, the eventual destination of our winners," Njonjo told FeverPitch.

Windsor has the reputation of being one of the toughest golf courses in Africa and it has been featured on several golf books. According IMG’s Peter Maina, Windsor offers a fine challenge for the more serious golfers, off the blue tees and a memorable walk and leisurely round for the weekend golfer.

"For example on the par-five fifth hole, apparently the longest par five in Africa at over 600-yards, the green-keeper can shorten or lengthen the hole by nearly 100-yards, and it is this kind of flexibility that makes playing at Windsor so attractive."

"The Dasani championship at Windsor will be won and lost at one or more of their signature holes. The downhill par-three 13th, aptly named ‘Tee to Coffee’ will prove tricky should the wind blow and the par-four 14th is tricky under any circumstances," Maina said.

Meanwhile, over 40 junior golfers, both handicapped and non-handicapped, will be in action at the Karen Country Club today as a curtain raiser for the Zain Corporate Golf Day. The junior golfers, mostly members of Karen, will tee off in the morning with the handicapped lot playing a full 18-hole round, while the younger non-handicapped golfers playing a shorter 9-hole course.

The club professional, John Njunge, said this is probably the first time a junior contest has been incorporated into a corporate golf day. "This is a great move by Zain. The junior golfers are the future of sports and it is wonderful to have them play on the same course and day as the CEO’s," Njunge said.
