Poachers kill three rhinos in Meru National Park

Poachers killed three rhinos in Meru National Park on Wednesday night.

Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) spokesman Paul Gathitu said investigators were following leads to help them arrest those involved.

"The incident happened between 6.30pm to 7pm on Wednesday night and this made it hard for our officers to pursue the suspects. Upon hearing gunshots the security teams reacted swiftly and went towards the direction of the gunshots and laid ambushes at strategic points till morning, but this did not yield any results," Mr Gathitu said.

He added that an aerial and ground search was conducted at first light yesterday and the carcasses of two adult rhinos and a calf were found with their horns missing.

He called for collaborative efforts involving KWS, police, and customs officials to keep up the anti-poaching crusade that has yielded good results.
