Nock polls: Tergat faces Muya for top seat, Kip Keino out

Paul Tergat will be challenged by Patrick Karuga Muya for the top post during the September 29 National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) elections.

Only the two candidates had shown interest in the top post by the close of nominations, meaning that incumbent Kipchoge Keino will not defend his seat.

But even Muya’s candidature is not assured as the general assembly will have to decide if he can contest considering that he was a late entrant for the post.

Muya from Kenya Swimming Federation is one of the three candidates who submitted their nomination papers by Friday’s new deadline.

Others are Ben Ekumbo who wants to defend his first deputy president post and will contest against Shadrack Maluki and Nahashon Randiek as well as Winnie Kamau who is seeking to be elected as one of the three committee members.

At the same time, Centre for Multiparty Democracy has announced that five federations will know whether or not they can take part in the electoral process on the election day.

The general assembly is supposed to make a decision on their fate before they are allowed to participate.

The federations include Kenya Tae-kwon-do Federation, Kenya Cycling Federation, Kenya Weightlifting Federation,  Badminton Kenya and Kenya Rowing & Canoe  Association which all have pending court cases.  [Gilbert Wandera]
