Basketball: Hosts University of Nairobi register mixed results in league action

Kivuli beat hosts University of Nairobi's Cavs 84-34 to maintain their good form in the ongoing Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) men's league at the weekend.

Geoffrey Langat, who scored 19 points, led in Kivuli's attack, as Joseph Mutua (16 points) and Cletus Namayi (15) contributed to the high-scoring win.

Caleb Mangwana shot 14 points for UoN, who failed to make any recovery from their poor start in the opening quarter.

In another match, Technical University of Kenya (TUK) toyed with United States International University (USIU), before beating them 74-69.

Brian Odhiambo scored a game-high of 32 points that included six trys as his teammate, Denis Loyotoma, grabbed another 20 points to guide TUK to victory.

The USIU team got most of their points through Alvin Nyasimi, who nailed 22 points, and Larry Shavanga, who had 18.

Meanwhile, Mustangs beat Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Nairobi Campus 57-49. Malvin Gains, who scored 13 points, was Mustangs' main man, while Richard Beckhoff hit 11 for the winners. Lucas Orimba scored a game-high of 25 points for JKUAT.

In another match, Kevin Nyongesa scored 10 points as Snipers shot down Mount Kenya University Nairobi Campus 30-19 in a low-scoring fixture.

Sharks also defeated Strathmore University 47-37. Teammates Davis Matunda (15 points) and Kennedy Gitata (12 points) were the main men in Sharks' onslaught. Tony Okol scored 10 points for Strathmore.

Elswhere, Uhuru Warriors crushed Neosasa Morans Academy 71-36. Hesborn Olulo had 24 points for Uhuru Warriors, while Edwin Ochieng bagged 15 for Neosasa Morans.

In the women's category, league leaders University of Nairobi Dynamites defeated Riara Scarlets 46-22. Liz Okumu hit 12 for UoN. [Erick Ochieng]
