Several women in Uganda are struggling to raise children sired by Chinese nationals This is after the Chinese nationals who fathered the children abandoned them Most of the Chinese nationals are employees of Sino hydro Construction Company The company is constructing Karuma hydropower dam in Uganda

Several women in Oyam District Uganda are seeking to petition the managers of a hydropower company- Sino hydro Power- in Uganda after its Chinese employees fathered their children and fled.

According to the Daily Monitor, the women are at a loss after the Chinese nationals abandoned them and are seeking to know the fate of their children.

One woman, Ms Jacqueline Adero, 20, narrated to the daily saying that she met a Chinese national working at the company and started a relationship with him

The man, Yahang, promised to marry her and take her to China but as soon as she got pregnant all hopes came crashing down after he told her he was going back to China for good without her.

“I couldn’t believe he was returning to China for good yet I carried his five-month pregnancy at the time and I just returned home in disappointment to manage my pregnancy, broke as I was,” said Adero.

Her parents and clan were shocked later when she gave birth to the Chinese baby. Her mother lamented that they are facing difficulties raising the child because he was allergic to local foods.

She only feeds on biscuits and soft drinks and when we serve her local dishes, he develops rashes all over her body,” said Adero’s mother.

Speaking to the Daily Monitor, Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) corporate affairs manager, Simon Kasyate said petitioning the company over the fatherless children was an exercise in futility.

Sex at Karuma is being traded on the basis of willing buyer and willing seller. These girls knew that these Chinese nationals have a lot of money that they would milk,” said Kasyate.

Dr Richard Nam, the Lango Cultural foundation prime minister was quoted saying that they are planning to negotiate with the management over the issue.

“It is our culture that once you impregnate our daughter and decline to marry her, you pay compensation for damages and upkeep of your offspring. This is what we want to make clear to them when we engage them in negotiations,” Dr Nam told the daily.
