New dating app allows singles to judge potential partners on their voice, not looks

The latest craze in mobile dating is here – and it allows users to pick their mates by using their voice rather than photos. The creators of Revealr wanted to cut the superficiality from dating by allowing people to pick potential mates blind date style.
The new app uses a 20-second clip of a person’s voice alongside pixelated photos to blur their looks. Then, like on Tinder, users are matched to a list of potential nearby dates, showing the person’s name, age, location and, of course, their own short vocal introduction.
Once a mutual match is made, both profiles – along with their photos – are revealed and users are free to hear more of the sexy voices they have picked.
The bizarre idea – which is like a dating version of BBC singing contest The Voice – is available on the iPhone AppStore and has so far managed to collect £500,000 worth of funding.
It is the brainchild of founders Guy Harrington, 27, and Paul Laight, 32, who are flatmates in Fulham, west London.
Guy said: “Revealr came about from our frustration of the superficiality of the current dating apps available.
“Much like blind dating changed the way people met in the 1990s, we want to do our best to allow people’s personality to shine through.
“One morning after a Tinder date, my flatmate Paul and I were sat hungover in our underpants and thought ‘why don’t we do a blind dating style app not based on looks but on the voice?'
“It would be great if we could get a marriage out of Revealr, a nice feeling knowing people can connect and get to know each other from an app built in a flat in Fulham.”
One AppStore reviewer said: “Something about hearing a voice and not seeing the photo makes the connection to the other person seem stronger. Nice app.”
The users also pointed out how many scientific studies show a person's voice is key to attracting a mate.
