Charmers gone wild

Worldwide, RnB singers are known for their soothing and riveting love ballads. However, as Kevin Oguoko found out, their private lives do not always complement what they preach

Cee Lo Green and the rape case

Cee Lo Green is the latest RnB singer to be caught in a nasty court battle between him and a female friend. The woman told police that Cee Lo took her to a restaurant in downtown Los Angeles back in July last year, where they had drinks. She said she remembered nothing past that point.

She claimed that she woke up several hours later lying completely naked, with Cee Lo on her side.

According to a police report, while being interrogated, Cee Lo continuously made references on the use a drug, but did not explicitly admit to slipping the drug in the woman’s drink — which is what police think he did.

R Kelly the paedophile

Aaliyah’s family handed her over to R Kelly with no supervision when she was an upcoming singer in her teenage years. Two months later, she missed her periods. As stated in the tell-all-book The Man Behind the Man, R Kelly raped the underage Aaliyah and was charged with statutory rape. However, a scheme in which Aaliyah’s age was faked succeeded and quickly, R Kelly got away with it by marrying her.

Ne-Yo and prostitutes

Popular RnB singer Ne-Yo was caught taking a photograph with a transsexual prostitute who has male genitalia. Ne-yo’s sexuality has been the focus of heavy speculation since his debut album.

In another case Ne-Yo’s name was mentioned in an underage prostitution scandal involving a French mistress Zahia Dehar. Dehar had been linked to many French footballers including French national striker and Nike model, Franck Ribiery.

According to police files, Zahia, who is now above 18, began working as a prostitute in March 2008. She made up to £20,000 (about Sh1.9 million) a month sleeping with rich men who would fly her to destinations like Dubai and put her up in five star hotels. And yes, Ne-Yo is said to have been one of them.

Chris Brown and anger management issues

E! News reported that while under interrogation with police, Rihanna alluded that Chris Brown not only inflicted horrific injuries on her, but also choked her while threatening to kill her. Chris Brown had pulled his rented Lamborghini to the side of a street in Los Angeles (Hancock Park area) after a heated argument involving an alleged text message from Brown’s other lover.

Rihanna reportedly took the keys and threw them outside. Chris tried in vain to find the keys, then came back to the car, put his hands around her neck and, according to the insider, said: “I’m going to kill you!” while chocking her.

Months later, Brown was spotted with a tattoo of a battered woman on his neck — that very much resembles Rihanna.

Usher the bad father

Usher broke down in tears during a custody trial early last year when his ex-wife’s attorney accused him of being a bad father. During several hours of questioning, Usher broke down on the stand after his ex-wife’s lawyer showed the court pictures of him partying in Europe in February, suggesting that he cares more about partying than he does about his kids.

The singer, who released a whole album on being a gentleman and a good father, was also grilled about his drug use.

Although Usher admitted to smoking pot in the past, he pointed out that he has never used drugs in front of the children during the court case.
