Machakos wasn’t the first capital town

The notion that Machakos was the first capital of Kenya is far-fetched. According to history, Voi was the first.

Voi was established in 1897 during the construction of the Kenya-Uganda Railway. In 1906, the colonial governor changed the idea and Machakos became the capital in 1908. It remained Kenya’s seat of power until 1910 when the capital was relocated to Muguga in Kikuyu then to downtown Nairobi in 1912.
