Riding his Honda450, Mugo eclipsed his own father Moses Mugo (KTM525) and series leader Shivam Vinayak who will not be racing in the next meeting in August to concentrate on studies at the Nairobi University.

After the heats, the younger Mugo told FeverPitch: "It felt great to win for the second time and it’s thanks to the Almighty God for the life and big thanks to my mum for supporting me to ride well. My biggest challenge has always been beating Vinayak, but today’s (Sunday’s) event had a big entry and with good riders like Anthony (Nielsen), it was such a challenging event".

AGGRESSIVE RIDING

Spectators at Jamhuri Park terraces witnessed some aggressive riding displayed by riders in combined heat runs.

Cruze Muigai, the MX2 daredevil in a Yamaha 250 four-stroke ride, was back to racing with his dazzling jumps and awesome cornering, which saw him beat Vinayak twice in the heat runs.

Muigai extended his MX2 lead to a flawless 360points, beating his cousin Tutu Maina to second place overall as Allan Maina finished third in the MX1.

DOMINATING THREE HEATS

In the young riders category, Maina Wanjigi won the MX50 race on 60 points after dominating the three heats at stake.

Jesse Waithaka came home second on 51 points, while Dekker Kihara and Tai Maina finished third and fourth respectively.

Jesse’s elder brother Jeremy Waithaka made up for his sibling’s undoing to win the MX60 class on 54 points followed by Owain Ashley (45), Mohammed Anwar (43), Rolf Kihara (40) and Ryan Bailey (36).

Ivan Guya maintained his campaign in search of a maiden MX125 class title when he beat Mwai Kibaki Junior to second, while Ted Wanday came third.

Apollo’s Mbuki won in the MX85 class with Samir Anwar finishing second followed by Karan Sehmi.
