DCI now suspends planned interviews over discriminatory degree demand for promotion after protests

The DCI has suspended planned interviews for promotion of officers over degree requirement.

This followed protests by some officers after authorities said only those recruited as graduates were illegible for promotion.

DCI boss George Kinoti called off the interviews until the issues are addressed. “The officers raised genuine grievances that require attention, hence the decision,” he said.

The Standard yesterday wrote about the protests after affected officers termed the promotion criterion unfair.

The group of constables that acquired degrees after being enlisted in the service, claimed it was discriminated against.

The DCI recently released guidelines on those who would undergo training before they could be promoted.

“Constables are being discriminated against in the new guidelines for promotion. Those who graduated while in the service are being sidelined,” an officer told The Standard.
