DPP Keriako Tobiko wants Philip Onyancha's murder case to go on

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) wants a murder case against a serial killer to proceed.

DPP Keriako Tobiko wants the trial of Philip Onyancha to begin from where it had reached after trial judge Nicholas Ombija retired from the Judiciary last month.

Prosecutor Moses Omirera told Justice Jessie Lessit that its only one witness who was yet to testify.

The investigating officer had already given his part of evidence before he was stood down to allow him bring more documents. He said since several witnesses had testified, it was better for the matter to proceed from where it had reached.

The judge directed that proceedings in the case be typed on priority basis and the matter be mentioned on May 17. Mr Onyacha had confessed to killing 19 women and children. He has since denied three murder charges preferred against him by the DPP.

Onyancha, who entered a plea in 2014 before Justice Lessit, said he did not commit the offences. His co-accused Tobias Nyabuhanga Aradi and Douglas Obiero Makori denied that on April 14, 2014 in Dagoretti, Nairobi they killed 14-year-old Anthony Njirwa Muiruri. He also denied killing Jacqueline Chepngetich on May 30, 2008.
