Shots fired to thwart land grab at scheme in Trans-Nzoia

Kenya Police reservists drove off intruders who attempted to take over the distribution of farms in the Chepchoina Settlement Scheme in Trans-Nzoia County.

The intruders were forced to flee following an exchange of gunfire with the reservists who thwarted attempts by criminals to evict those who had been allocated  land in the 3,000-acre farm.

Confirming the incident, County Commander Lillian Okembo said police were pursing the gang. Kapenguria legislator Samuel Moroto said intruders had evicted legitimate squatters and taken over their parcels of land.

He has also accused some provincial administrators of double allocations and preserving some parcels of land for their friends. Moroto has now urged the National Government to intervene.
