IEBC sets date to decide Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula’s fate

NAIROBI, KENYA: Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has formed a committee to accord Bungoma Senator Wetangula opportunity to show cause why he should not be deregistered as a voter.

The Special Committee shall sit on January 12, 2016 and submit its report to the Commission Plenary by January 20, next year.

“Following the publication of Supreme Court ruling by the Senate Speaker pursuant to section 87 (3) of the Election Act (see Gazette Notice No. 7852 of 23rd October 2015) in respect of electoral offences committed by Hon. Moses Wetangula, the Commission held a Special Plenary meeting this morning, 3 December 2015, during which it resolved to set up a Special Committee to deal with the matter,” says a statement from the commission signed by Ahmed Issack Hassan chairperson.

The five member committee comprises Thomas Letangule  (Chairperson), Lilian Mahiri-Zaja   (member), Mohamed Alawi (member),  Crispin Owiye (secretary)  and Moses Kipkogei  acting as the assisting Counsel.
