Kenya’s peace building and conflict management Director SK Maina passes on

NAIROBI: The National director for the National Steering Committee on Peace Building and Conflict Management at interior ministry SK Maina is dead.

Maina died at a Nairobi hospital after suffering cancer, his colleagues and family said.

Former Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia described Maina as a dedicated civil servant who worked behind the scenes contributing immensely to reforms and success in the security docket.

While sending his condolence to family and friends, Kimemia mourned the country had lost a valuable asset in the name of Maina who was one of his key pillars when he served as Internal Security PS before rising to become head of civil service.

“He was a good role model and champion for Kenya’s peace and security whose policy, structures and were developed, approved and strengthened under his docket especially after the 2007 post-election violence,” said Kimemia.

Maina studied political science and has been involved in conflict resolution throughout Kenya for many years, with a particular focus on the pastoralist conflicts. He is the recipient of some of Kenya’s highest awards, including the “Order of the Grand Warrior” and the “Head of State Commendation.”
