Call for peace at late Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang's rural home

Political leaders from Homa Bay County want locals to put aside their political differences ahead of Senator Otieno Kajwang's burial.

Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti, Rangwe MP George Oner and Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo told locals to avoid any form of chaos before, on or after the burial.

Speaking when they visited Kajwang's home in Waondo village, Mbita constituency, the leaders said Kajwang’ should be given an honourable send-off and it would be wrong of anybody disrupt the peace at his home.

“Kajwang’ was a great leader and we should give him total respect during the burial on Friday. Let all our people maintain peace during this difficult time,” said Mr Awiti.

Mr Oner told leaders in the area to embrace hospitality to ensure the burial's success.

EMINENT PEOPLE

“I want to appeal to fellow politicians and other leaders from this county to demonstrate civilisation of the highest order because the entire world is watching Homa Bay County on Friday. Let us forget any form of differences that exist among us,” Oner said.

Ms Odhiambo called on county leaders to work together in the ongoing preparations to make the burial successful.

“Kajwang’s burial is going to be attended by many eminent people and will be comparable only to that of former Labour minister Tom Mboya. Let us all join hands to ensure its success,” she said.

She expressed optimism that preparations were going on well. “I have assessed various departments and most of the work is going on well except in a few areas, which I will report to the burial committee for amendment,” said Odhiambo.

Some of the activities included cleaning the field where planes will land and preparing a parking lot for vehicles.
