Nairobi, Kenya: Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has warned those involved in the production of pornographic materials, that their days are numbered.

KFCB Chief Executive Officer Lawrence Owiti said they are liaising with the police to conduct spot checks and arrest those violating the law including those in possession of pornographic materials.

“We want to ensure these culprits are arrested and prosecuted under the penal code,” said Mr Owiti.

He noted there was a porous legal system to regulate exhibition and distribution of pornography on the Internet and other forms of media, which provide a conducive environment for the crime to thrive.

He added there was an adoption of “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” culture where all have chosen to ignore what is going on around them.

“This has encouraged violators of the law to propagate their crimes and entrench their evil schemes as part of acceptable behaviour,” said Owiti Tuesday during a weekly media briefing at Teleposta Towers.

He appealed to the public to be on the lookout and help the board and police get information on those distributing, exhibiting and producing films, movies, or videos unsuitable for public consumption.

He also urged the public to be pro-active in ensuring their welfare including those of their loved ones was protected by accessing goods and services that have been approved.

“Compliance with the law is crucial if the country is to achieve its goals and objectives as enshrined in the Constitution and captured under Vision 2030. We all have a role to play in rooting out pornography,” he said.

Recently in Nyali, Mombasa County, female students from Mombasa Polytechnic were allegedly busted in the act with a dog and arrested.

Muslim leaders and human rights organisations urged the Government to order an immediate closure of all brothels and illegal clubs, which promote sex tourism at the Coast.

Deputy President William Ruto condemned the act and wants such incidences investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department.
