Western Jaguars closed the gap between them and second-placed Kenya Police to within three points after thrashing Strathmore University Gladiators 5-2 in a seven-goal Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) men's Premier League match at the City Park Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday.
Conrad Wafula and Edison Ndombi each scored a brace for the Kakamega-based outfit with Bethuel Masambu adding to the rout as Brian Ongech and Keith Alusa scored the students two goals in the defeat.
Victory saw the visitors gain ground on second-placed Police who were not in action this weekend.
Jaguars remained third on the log with 21 points, three behind Police who have 24 points.
Defending champions Butali Sugar Warriors who are unbeaten so far in their opening 12 games lead the standings nine points clear of the Jaguars with 30 points.
Butali has registered nine wins and three draws as Police who have played a game less bagging seven wins, three draws and one defeat.
The Michael Malungu-led Jaguars on the other hand have won six matches, drawing and losing three games in their 12-games played so far.
United States International University Africa (USIU-A) Mashujaa complete the top four with 16 points.
In the relegation zone, Mombasa Sports Club (MSC) are bottom of the 10-club league with four points after 11 matches followed by Park road with six points.
